PENSACOLA, Florida - Florida highways adorned with palm trees in Escambia County have been transformed into a winter wonderland by a broad area of snow that continues to shift east and northeast into portions of southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle from Louisiana/southern Mississippi.
Occasional sleet and freezing rain reports have occurred across the coast, but the main precipitation type has become snow area wide, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.
Heavy snow bands over the Florida Panhandle into southeast Alabama with gusty winds of 25-30 mph could cause blowing snow and near whiteout conditions, the National Weather Service Tallahassee cautions, "PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROADS! This could become a life-threatening situation for those stranded."
