Florida Woman Killed By NYE Celebratory Gunfire

KISSIMMEE, Florida — A woman in Kissimmee, Florida, was killed by what police described as "celebratory gunfire" on New Year's Eve. 

The incident occurred around 12:02 a.m. on January 1, 2025, when she was struck at her residence on Gull Court, according to a release by the Kissimmee Police Department.

She was immediately taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead there. 

The victim has been identified as Carmen Rosa Neira Ochoa, aged 56. 

This is the second death reported in Florida due to  celebratory gunfire, where individuals fire guns into the air in celebration on New Year's Eve.

A 10-year-old girl was also fatally struck by a stray bullet during New Year’s celebrations in Miami-Dade County.
