WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. President Joe Biden has pardoned Dr. Anthony Fauci, retired General Mark Milley and members of the House committee who investigated the January 6 attack on the Capitol, the Associated Press reported.

“The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense,” Biden said in a statement. “Our nation owes these public servants a debt of gratitude for their tireless commitment to our country.”

Florida Officials React

"Biden pardoning Anthony Fauci in his final hours is a slap in the face to the millions of Americans he lied to, those who lost their job, their small businesses and so much more because of him," said Senator Rick Scott (R-FL).

"One of Biden’s greatest abuses of power was the forcing of mRNA shots by executive fiat (which Florida successfully blocked)," Florida Governor Ron DeSantis posted on X. "Now, on his way out the door, Biden pardons the chief henchman of that and so many other abuses. The swamp protects its own."

Speculation Dr. Anthony Fauci Caused COVID-19 Pandemic

Gain-of-Function Research: There has been debate about Fauci's involvement with research funding, specifically regarding "gain-of-function" research, which some critics link to the origins of the COVID-19 virus. Fauci has denied that NIH-funded research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology was involved this type of research.

"If there was ever any doubt as to who bears responsibility for the COVID pandemic, Biden’s pardon of Fauci forever seals the deal," Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) posted on X.

"As Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee I will not rest until the entire truth of the coverup is exposed... Ignominious! Anthony Fauci will go down in history as the first government scientist to be preemptively pardoned for a crime."

Conservatives Accuse General Mark Milley Of Treason

Milley's actions in the last days of the Trump administration drew significant attention when it was reported in Bob Woodward's book "Peril" that he had made calls to his Chinese counterpart to reassure them of U.S. stability and that the U.S. had no plans to attack. This was in response to concerns about Trump's mental state and potential for erratic orders. These actions led to accusations from some, particularly from Trump allies, of undermining civilian control of the military or even treason. Milley defended his actions as part of his duty to maintain stability and peace.

There was also controversy around Milley's role on January 6, when the Capitol was attacked. Reports suggested he took steps to ensure no unlawful orders would be carried out, which some viewed as overstepping his authority, while others saw it as a necessary check during a period of national crisis.

January 6 Committee Alleged Witness Tampering

Liz Cheney, as vice chair of the committee, has been accused by some Republican members of Congress of improperly influencing the testimony of Cassidy Hutchinson, a key witness who was a former aide in the Trump White House. The allegations suggest that Cheney's communications with Hutchinson might have constituted witness tampering, specifically by encouraging Hutchinson to change her legal representation or by influencing her testimony.

A House Republican-led subcommittee, specifically the House Administration's Subcommittee on Oversight, led by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), has been vocal about these allegations. Their interim report suggested that Cheney's actions warranted an FBI investigation for potential criminal witness tampering

Liz Cheney has strongly denied these allegations, describing them as "lies and defamatory allegations" intended to discredit the work of the January 6 Committee and to cover up for former President Donald Trump's actions. She has maintained that her actions were in pursuit of the truth about the events of January 6.
