Girl, 10, Fatally Struck by Stray Bullet During Florida New Year’s Celebration

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – The Miami-Dade Police Department's Homicide Bureau is investigating the tragic death of a 10-year-old girl who was fatally struck by a stray bullet during New Year’s celebrations.

According to investigators, the incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. as Yaneliz Munguia was celebrating with her family. Witnesses reported that the girl suddenly collapsed, prompting her parents to check for injuries. They discovered a wound to the back of her head.  


The family immediately placed her in their vehicle, calling emergency services while rushing to find a hospital. Hialeah Fire Rescue responded near Palm Avenue and West 3rd Street, where they transported the child to Jackson Ryder Trauma Center. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.  


A preliminary investigation revealed the girl was struck by a stray bullet fired into the air from an unknown location. The shooter remains unidentified, and authorities are urging the public to assist in their investigation.  


"It is with deep sorrow that we share the tragic loss of a 10-year-old girl, who was killed due to celebratory gunfire on New Years Day near NW 27 Avenue and NW 21 Street in Miami," MDP posted on X.


"This heartbreaking incident serves as a devastating reminder that what goes up must come down. Bullets fired into the air can take innocent lives.
