MIAMI, Florida – Scattered to numerous thunderstorms could bring gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours this afternoon across South Florida on Friday, August 23, 2024, according to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center.
Slow moving thunderstorms combined with the potential for heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding.
The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a High Rip Current Risk that is in effect from 8 a.m. Friday through Saturday morning for Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Broward counties.
Saturday through Thursday
Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will develop through the weekend and possibly into next week. Some thunderstorms could become strong to marginally severe.
A tropical wave will bring enhanced moisture over South Florida this weekend, which will present flooding concerns where showers and thunderstorms repeatedly develop.
The risk for rip currents could possibly remain high through the weekend across the Atlantic Coast beaches and stay at elevated levels into next week as onshore flow persists.
