Thunderstorms, Excessive Heat For Florida On 4th of July Weekend

TAMPA, Florida - Scattered thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon hours into the early evening across most of Florida, which may cause delays or cancelations of fireworks shows tonight for Independence Day celebrations.


Some of these thunderstorms may contain periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning, according to the the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center.

The greatest chance for thunderstorms is north of a line from Tampa to Orlando in Central Florida northward to Tallahassee in North Florida. In South Florida, rain chances are highest in the inland areas of Southwest Florida.

The afternoon thunderstorms may bring relief to some areas from the excessive heat in the 90's with a heat index above 100 that is forecast across Florida.
