ORLANDO, Florida – Walgreens will close a ‘significant’ share of stores, the Wall Street Journal reported. But the exact number of Walgreens stores closing and whether any stores will close in Florida, has not been disclosed.
In Walgreens Boots Alliance’s latest financial report, the retail pharmacy giant outlined its intention to shut down certain underperforming U.S. stores in a bid to streamline operations and improve overall efficiency.
“We continue to face a difficult operating environment, including persistent pressures on the U.S. consumer and the impact of recent marketplace dynamics which have eroded pharmacy margins. Our results and outlook reflect these headwinds, despite solid performance in both our International and U.S. Healthcare segments,” said Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth.
Last month, Walmart announced that it is closing all 51 health centers spread across five states, including 23 locations in Florida.
