Snapchill LLC has issued a voluntary recall of all its canned coffee products due to a potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause botulism, a severe and potentially fatal form of food poisoning.
The recall, announced on June 17, 2024, affects all Snapchill canned coffee products that are within their expiration dates. The FDA published the recall notice on June 20, 2024. According to Snapchill, the issue stems from their current manufacturing process, which may permit the growth of the deadly botulinum toxin in low-acid canned foods.
No illnesses have been reported so far, and Snapchill stated that they are not aware of any instances where their products contained the toxin. The potential contamination was identified after the FDA notified Snapchill that the company’s process for low-acid canned foods had not been filed with the agency as required by regulation.
The affected products were distributed nationwide through various coffee roasters, retail locations, and direct online sales. Consumers can identify the recalled products by the label "Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC" underneath the nutrition facts panel or the text "Snapchill Coffee" on the label.
Snapchill advises consumers to destroy the products or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. The company is offering full refunds with proof of purchase, which can include a picture of the product before it is destroyed. Full return and refund details are available by contacting [email protected].
Consumers with questions can reach Snapchill by email at [email protected] or by phone at (920) 632-6018, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Central Time.
