National Weather Service Issues Heat Advisory For South Florida

MIAMI, Florida - The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a Heat Advisory effective from 8 AM to 5 PM EDT today for several areas in South Florida, including parts of Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier, and Monroe Counties.

This advisory affects Inland Broward County, Metro Broward County, Inland Miami-Dade County, Metropolitan Miami-Dade County, Coastal Broward County, Coastal Miami-Dade County, Far South Miami-Dade County, Coastal Collier County, Inland Collier County, and Mainland Monroe County. Major cities impacted include Florida City, Coral Springs, Pembroke Pines, Miami, Hollywood, Kendall, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Miles City, Immokalee, Marco Island, Naples, and Royal Palm Hammock, among others.

Heat index values are expected to reach up to 109 degrees in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties and up to 110 degrees in Collier and Monroe Counties during the advisory period. The combination of high temperatures and humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses. Residents are advised to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated.

Heat Exhaustion versus Heat Stroke 

Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
