Severe Thunderstorm Warning For Central Polk County
POLK COUNTY, Florida - The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that will remain in effect until 5:45 p.m. EDT on May 13, 2024, for central Polk County, Florida.
A severe thunderstorm, detected by radar, was located 7 miles northeast of Lake Wales, moving east at 30 mph. The storm is expected to bring hazardous conditions, including ping pong ball-sized hail and wind gusts of up to 60 mph.
Locations impacted by this severe thunderstorm include Poinciana, Lake Wales, Dundee, Lake Hamilton, and Waverly.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take immediate precautions. Seek shelter indoors in a sturdy building, and stay away from windows. Prepare for potential damage to roofs, siding, windows, vehicles, and trees.
