CORAL GABLES, Florida – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law a bill to raise the age of strippers from 18 to 21 during a news conference in Coral Gables, Florida.
Lawmakers passed the stripper age restriction in Florida adult-entertainment establishments in House Bill 7063 to try to curb human trafficking by a 104-3 vote.
Rep. Anna Eskamani, D-Orlando, Rep. Yvonne Hinson, D-Gainesville, and Rep. Angie Nixon, D-Jacksonville, cast the dissenting votes
The law takes effect July 1, 2024.
“Human trafficking is a scourge on our society that has been worsened by our open southern border. Florida is being proactive in the fight against it, said DeSantis.
“Today I signed HB 7073, which increases penalties for entities who engage in human trafficking and requires facilities in Florida to facilitate the recognition and recovery of trafficked individuals.”
Additionally, I’m approving funding in the budget to expand access to emergency beds for adult survivors of human trafficking and to launch a grant opportunity to enhance training for law enforcement officers who respond to human trafficking incidents.
