COLLIER COUNTY, Florida - Florida State Attorney Amira Fox announced that a Collier County Grand Jury returned a first-degree murder indictment against 29-year-old Michaella Jean Haire of Naples, Florida, for her alleged role in a fatal fentanyl overdose.

Haire is accused of obtaining Fentanyl that she gave to the victim, who overdosed and died a short time later.

The indictment alleges that on September 4, 2023, in Collier County, Haire did unlawfully, kill the victim, by the unlawful distribution of fentanyl, or mixture thereof, and that the fentanyl caused or is proven to have been a substantial factor in producing the death of the victim.

“I hope today’s indictment brings some sense of comfort to the family and friends of the victim. I want to thank the Collier County Grand Jury for their attention to the evidence in this case,” said State Attorney Amira Fox.

"Today is another example of holding people accountable who distribute drugs to others that cause death. I want anyone who peddles this poison to know that if we can prove the drug you distributed was a substantial factor in an overdose death we will indict you for First-Degree Murder.”

Haire is in custody on unrelated charges in Collier County. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation into this crime.  Assistant State Attorneys Sarah Woodward and Brock Frazier are prosecuting the case.
