University of Florida Threatens Disruptive Student Protestors
GAINESVILLE, Florida - The University of Florida issued a notice on Friday laying out what is not tolerable behavior for students protests on campus.
The notice prohibits disruptive protest activities such as camping, using amplified sound, tents, sleeping bags, protesting inside buildings, or blocking ingress and egress of buildings.
Protestors who engage in disruptive behavior on campus will be trespassed from Florida's flagship university and students will be suspended and trespassed for 3 years.
The notice comes after student protests at universities across the U.S. have become increasingly disruptive over the Israel-Hamas war in Palestine, where students are asking that the U.S. lawmakers to end military aid for Israel and accuse Israel of committing genocide by killing over 30,000 civilians in Gaza and preventing food and medical aid to enter Gaza.
"We are appalled by the University of Florida’s response to peaceful protestors and occupiers in the Plaza of Americas this evening," the Pro-Palestinian UF Divestment Coalition stated on Instagram.
"After changing the rules and regulations several times over the last two days and being unable to cite university policy, UFPD distributed a new and vague list of “allowable activities” to restrict our movement. The students will not be moved. We will not allow our tuition money to fund a genocide. We will not be silenced."
