High Wind Advisory, Hail, Tornadoes Possible For Florida

, Florida – The has issued a high wind advisory for several regions across the Florida peninsula on April 3, 2024, as severe conditions, including the possibility of tornadoes, hail, and damaging gusts, are forecast to sweep through the state.

ORLANDO AND EAST

A wind advisory has been issued for East Central Florida, effective from 10 AM to 8 PM. Winds are predicted to intensify from the south-southwest, reaching speeds of 20 to 30 mph with frequent gusts up to 40 mph. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and stay indoors if possible.

Orlando and East Central Florida are expected to experience isolated to scattered strong to severe storms later today, moving east-southeast at speeds ranging from 35 to 50 mph. 

Lightning storms may bring locally damaging wind gusts reaching up to 60 to 70 mph, hail up to 1 inch in diameter, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning strikes. 

Additionally, a or two cannot be ruled out, particularly in areas north of Lake Kissimmee and Cape Canaveral.

Waterspouts are also a concern in the adjacent northern Brevard and waters, as isolated lightning storms may trigger their formation later in the day.

AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA

Tampa and Southwest Florida are under a wind advisory from 11 AM to 5 PM EDT, with southwest winds expected to range from 20 to 30 mph, accompanied by gusts of up to 50 mph. 

Potential impacts include the blowing around of unsecured objects, fallen tree limbs, and sporadic power outages.

In Jacksonville and North Florida, a wind advisory is in effect from 10 AM to 5 PM EDT. Southwest winds are anticipated to reach speeds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, posing risks of property damage and power disruptions due to fallen tree limbs.
