ORLANDO, Florida - Recent data reveals concerning statistics about the weight status of Americans, with nearly 42% of U.S. adults classified as obese.
The financial burden of obesity-related medical treatments and lost productivity due to work absenteeism is estimated to reach approximately $190.2 billion annually and $4.3 billion, respectively.
In a comprehensive analysis conducted by WalletHub, 100 of the most populous U.S. metro areas were compared across 19 key indicators of weight-related problems.
These indicators ranged from the share of physically inactive adults to projected obesity rates by 2030 to access to healthy food options.
Among the list of "Fattest Cities in the U.S.", several Florida cities made notable appearances:
Orlando, Florida ranked 71st overall with a total score of 68.01, placing 79th in obesity and overweight rank, 49th in health consequences rank, and 74th in food and fitness rank.
Tampa, Florida followed closely behind, securing the 76th spot with a total score of 66.78. It ranked 69th in obesity and overweight rank, 83rd in health consequences rank, and 77th in food and fitness rank.
Jacksonville, Florida came in at the 81st position with a total score of 65.84. It ranked 88th in obesity and overweight rank, 68th in health consequences rank, and 72nd in food and fitness rank.
Miami, Florida rounded out the Florida cities on the list, landing at the 83rd position with a total score of 65.48. It ranked 76th in obesity and overweight rank, 85th in health consequences rank, and 83rd in food and fitness rank.
