PORT CANAVERAL, Florida - The first stage of a Trident II missile failed to fire after being launched from a British submarine and plunged back into the Atlantic Ocean off of the coast of Port Canaveral, Florida on January 30, 2024, British newspaper The Sun reported.
The Royal Navy's 15,000-ton HMS Vanguard submarine was not hit by the wayward missile as it plunged back into the ocean.
This is the second time a British Trident II missile failed to fire, the first time was in 2016, also off the coast of Florida.
A search for the defunct missile on the ocean floor was conducted, The Sun reports.
