Magnitude 4.0 Earthquake Rocks Florida East Coast

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida - A seismic magnitude 4 Atlantic earthquake shook Florida's east coast at 10:48 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2024.
The Florida earthquake was felt across Florida's Space Coast from as far south as Vero Beach, Florida, to as far north as Titusville, Florida, according to the U.S. Geological Survey shake map.

The epicenter of the Florida earthquake was located 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) below the Atlantic Ocean floor and 101 miles (163 kilometers) east of Cape Canaveral, Florida, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
A SpaceX rocket launch from Cape Canaveral was not affected by the earthquake and lifted-off as scheduled a few hours later.
The east coast of Florida is not prone to earthquakes like California.
Other suspected earthquakes off of Florida's Space Coast were later revealed to have been caused by U.S. Navy testing.
In June 2021, a U.S. Navy Full Shock Test registered as a 3.9 magnitude earthquake in the same area of of Florida' Space Coast.
