Tornado Warning Issued For Gainesville


GAINESVILLE, Florida – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Florida has issued a tornado warning for Gainesville, Florida that will remain in effect until 3:15 PM. Eastern Standard Time.


At 2:38 PM EST, the storm, capable of producing a tornado, was located over Archer, approximately 9 miles northeast of Bronson, and is moving northeast at a rapid speed of 80 mph. 


The primary hazards associated with this storm include tornadoes and flying debris, which pose a significant danger to those without proper shelter. 


Mobile homes are at risk of damage or destruction, and widespread damage to roofs, windows, vehicles, and trees is likely.

This dangerous storm is anticipated to reach Gainesville, Alachua, and the University of Florida around 2:45 PM EST.


Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Newberry and Waldo.


Residents in the warned area are strongly advised to take cover immediately. Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, and avoid windows. If outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, seek the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
