Powerball Jackpot Climbs To $810 Million On New Year's Day Drawing



TALLAHASSEE, Florida - The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $810 million for the next Powerball drawing on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2024. The jackpot has an estimated cash value of $408.9 million.


The estimated jackpot for the New Year's Day 2024 drawing ranks as the fifth-largest Powerball jackpot and tenth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot.


“We’re excited to offer our players a jackpot of this magnitude to kick off the New Year!” said Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director. 


“While New Year’s is a time of celebration, we kindly remind our players to play responsibly. Let’s keep the fun in playing the game. It only takes one ticket to win.”


The Powerball jackpot was previously won on October 11, 2023, when a ticket in California won a $1.765 billion grand prize. Since then, there have been 34 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner.



How To Play POWERBALL



Powerball tickets cost $2 per each and is played in 45 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.



Select five numbers from 1 to 69 for the white balls. Then select one number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball.



To multiply your non-jackpot prizes, select the Power Play box. Power Play costs $1 more per play.



With Power Play, players can win $2 million for matching the five white balls or multiply his/her other non-jackpot prizes two to five times when the advertised jackpot is over $150 million, and up to 10 times when the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less.



Drawings are held Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time at the Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.



Tickets can be purchased until 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the night of the drawing.


POWERBALL Odds and Payout



The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.



All Powerball prizes are set payouts, except the jackpot. The jackpot prize will be shared among winners in all Powerball states.



The jackpot will be paid in 30 annual payments or a one-time cash payment of a reduced amount. If there is no jackpot winner, the money in the jackpot pool rolls over to the next Powerball drawing.
