CRYSTAL RIVER, Florida - Hundreds of manatees have sought refuge from the chilly temperatures this week at Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Florida.
The influx highlights the success of a recent shoreline restoration project undertaken by the Southwest Florida Water Management District, which shared the video of the marine mammals.
The District's restoration project was completed in 2016 to address the eroded shoreline around Three Sisters Springs and prevent future erosion caused by both manatee and human activity.
The current gathering of manatees in the area underscores the significance of these efforts in providing a safe and welcoming haven for these gentle marine creatures during adverse weather conditions.
