Baby Formula Recall For Possible Contamination

Baby Formula Recalled

'Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition announced that it has recalled from the U.S. market select batches of Nutramigen Powder, a specialty infant formula for the dietary management of Cows Milk Allergy, due to a possibility of contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii, a bacterium known for causing severe and life-threatening infections such as sepsis and meningitis.

Cronobacter infection symptoms encompass poor feeding, irritability, temperature fluctuations, jaundice, grunting breaths, and abnormal movements. Additionally, the bacteria may lead to bowel damage and can spread through the blood to other parts of the body.

The affected Nutramigen batches were packaged in 12.6 and 19.8 oz containers in June 2023 and predominantly distributed in the months of June, July, and August 2023.

Considering the limited availability of the remaining stock, it is assumed that a significant portion, if not all, of the recalled products in the United States has already been consumed.

As of now, there have been no reported cases of illnesses or adverse events associated with the consumption of the affected Nutramigen batches. The products were distributed through various retail stores across the nation.

Consumers are advised to check the bottom of the can for the batch code to identify the recalled products. The specific batch codes associated with the recall are as follows:

ZL3FHG (12.6 oz cans)

ZL3FMH (12.6 oz cans)

ZL3FPE (12.6 oz cans)

ZL3FQD (12.6 oz cans)

ZL3FRW (19.8 oz cans)

ZL3FXJ (12.6 oz cans)

These batches have a UPC Code of 300871239418 or 300871239456 and a "Use By Date" of "1 Jan 2025."

It is important to note that no other Nutramigen batches or Reckitt products distributed in the U.S. are affected by this recall.

Parents with concerns or questions are encouraged to consult with their pediatrician or contact the company at 866-534-9986 (available 24/7) or via email at [email protected]

Consumers who have purchased the recalled Nutramigen products should either dispose of them or reach out to the company for a complete refund. Regular checks of the batch number on the can bottom are recommended for those who have purchased Nutramigen.
