Severe Storms To Move Across Florida This Weekend
TAMPA, Florida - Severe thunderstorms, isolated tornadoes, heavy rain, local flooding, and wind gusts over 35 mph are possible across the Florida peninsula this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, an area of low pressure over the southern Gulf of Mexico will track across Florida on Saturday into Sunday.
This system will be accompanied by a severe thunderstorm threat, heavy rains, hazardous marine and coastal conditions and continued gusty winds.
Severe Storms: Primary threat of damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes. Greatest risk Saturday night into Sunday, with highest threat along and south of low pressure track.
Heavy Rain: Heavy rainfall with flooding potential across the peninsula Saturday into Sunday. Low pressure track will determine area of heaviest rainfall.
Beaches: Hazardous Rip Currents and High Surf likely to develop along area beaches by Sunday. Continued gusty conditions likely through the weekend, highest late Saturday into Sunday.
Marine: Gale Warning for offshore waters, Small Craft Advisory for nearshore/bays. Strongest winds late Saturday into Sunday. E/NE winds shift to W/NW on Sunday. Gusts near 40 kts offshore, 30 kts nearshore/bays. Seas 2-4 ft in bays, 6-10 ft nearshore, 8-12 ft offshore.
The National Weather Service advises inhabitants in the impacted areas to remain alert for possible severe weather watches and warnings and act quickly if a threat materializes for your area.
