Supreme Court Rules Trump Has Immunity For Official Acts

U.S. President Donald Trump

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in Trump v. United States that "Under our constitutional structure of separated powers, the nature of Presidential power entitles a former President to absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority. And he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts. There is no immunity for unofficial acts."

The Supreme Court then sent the case back to the District Court.

"This necessarily factbound analysis is best performed initially by the District Court. The Court therefore remands to the District Court to determine in the first instance whether this alleged conduct is official or unofficial."

"Today’s decision to grant former Presidents criminal immunity reshapes the institution of the Presidency. It makes a mockery of the principle, foundational to our Constitution and system of Government, that no man is above the law," Justice Sotomayor wrote in the dissent of the three liberal justices.

"Relying on little more than its own misguided wisdom about the need for “bold and unhesitating action” by the President ... the Court gives former President Trump all the immunity he asked for and more."

Former President Donald Trump reacted to the ruling by posting on TruthSocial.com: "The Supreme Court totally dismantled most of the charges against me. Joe Biden should now call off his “dogs.” Our Country should now be focused on GREATNESS again!"
