Special Weather Statement For Southwestern Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Florida - The National Weather Service in Miami, Florida, issued a Special Weather Statement for southwestern Collier County through 3:00 PM EDT.

At 2:00 PM EDT, National Weather Service meteorologists are monitoring strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Orangetree to 8 miles north of Copeland. These storms are moving west at 15 mph.


HAZARD: Winds in excess of 30 mph.


SOURCE: Radar indicated.


IMPACT: Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.


Locations Impacted Include:

Naples, Marco Island, Golden Gate Estates, Everglades City, Plantation Island, Carnestown, Belle Meade, Orangetree, Golden Gate, East Naples, Lely Resort, Copeland, Vineyards, Royal Palm Hammock, Naples Park, Marco Island Airport, Naples Manor, West Toll Gate On Alligator Alley, North Naples, and Pelican Bay.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:


These winds can down small tree limbs and branches, and blow around unsecured small objects. Seek shelter in a safe building until the storm passes.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is observed with these storms. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from the thunderstorm. Seek shelter indoors or in a vehicle.
